Touchpad vs. wheel

Touchpads and free-spinning wheels keep emitting input after the motion ends. The tool treats that as ordinary physics — but only if you tell it what you are using.

Coasting is normal

Momentum scrolling on a touchpad, and a free-spin wheel turning under its own weight, legitimately produce trailing events — sometimes in either direction. Expect higher reverse counts there than on a notched wheel.

Use the right setting

Select Touchpad / Free-spin before starting. The verdict wording becomes cautious automatically, and the limits note names coasting as an expected cause.

Cleaner runs

• Use one steady finger motion; lift clearly at the end rather than feathering.
• Keep durations at 15 seconds so the sample outlasts the coasting tail.
• Compare two runs with Run A / Run B instead of trusting one — start on the main scroll wheel tester.
