How to read this test
- The Horizontal direction is preselected. Calibrate with slow slides, then hold a steady sideways motion for the full duration.
- Many vertical wheels report deltaX: 0 — that means the device sends no sideways input, which is normal, not a failure.
- The dominant sideways direction decides the verdict; minority-side events count as opposite. Touchpad swipes often coast after the fingers lift, so trailing events in either direction are expected there.
- Ctrl+wheel gestures are pinch-zoom, not scrolling — counted separately and excluded from direction counts.
Compatibility and the honest no-input state
Side scrolling needs hardware that sends it: a tilt wheel, a trackball, a touchpad, or a mouse with a dedicated horizontal wheel. A standard vertical wheel without tilt hardware will record “No input recorded” — that verdict describes your device's capabilities, not a defect, and the tool will not invent sideways events to fill the gap.
If sideways input never arrives
First confirm the hardware actually sends it: try a tilt-click in another app, check OS settings for “scroll inactive windows” and natural-scroll direction, and test a second browser. If deltaX stays zero everywhere with a device that should send it, that pattern — repeated across apps — matters more than any single timed run here.
